Liaoyang Professional Technology Institute, based in Liaoyang, is a full-time tertiary college and
the only municipal college concentrating on higher education in
vocational technologies.
Located in Liaodong Peninsula, Liaoyang city is famous for its historical
and cultural heritage and isalso known for its modern petrochemical
and textile industries.
The college is composed of three campuses---- the main campus, the
branch for primary school teachers’ training and the branch of continuing
educat
ion.
The whole college covers an area of 202,400 m2, with 86,367 m2 of
floor area. With fixed assets value of 130 million, the college
is well equipped with modern facilities for teaching purposes. There
are 6 comprehensive teaching buildings, two libraries, a recreational
house, a gymnasium, an art center and a newly-built lab building
with multimedia classrooms and an internet website system. There
are all together 22 laboratories for physics, electronics, biochemistry
and farming, and computer science. The laboratories are equipped
with some 800 sets of advanced computers and other modern facilities
for teaching purposes. With a US$ 3.6 million loan from the Austrian
Government, the college is building its training center for Chemical
Engineering Department on the main campus.
There are six student dormitories, five dining-halls, a newly-built
standardized stadium, several courts for basketball and volleyball,
a tennis court and some scenic spots for students to enjoy the leisure
hours and to relax. It is an ideal place for higher learning.
There are 35 majors distributed amongst 13 departments. Among the
630 staff, there are 159 professors, 280 lecturers, 150 teaching
assistants and 3 foreign teachers in the Foreign Language Department.
To satisfy market needs, the college is actively searching for new
concepts in educating its students in the area of higher vocational
skills. For the purpose of upgrading its teaching, the college is
planning to
send
its backbone teachers to do further learning in some key universities
and colleges both home and abroad. With 5,000 students enrolled,
the college has contributed a great deal to the local economy by
education high quality employees. For its innovations and its achievements
in education, the college has been honored with many titles by the
provincial government and provincial Educational Committee since
last year.
The college has cooperated with Northeast University in the area
of distant education via computer network. This has built an interchange
between secondary and higher vocational education, regular education&
adult education, diploma education and vocational education. At
present, traditional classroom teaching is running side by side
with modern distant education, forming a multi-level, multi mode
system of vocational education.
Looking into the future, the faculties of the college are very confident.
They are aiming at building the college into one of the first rate
vocational universities in the country.
